The deal has been reached after long discussion and was above all made possible by concessions to Germany and Poland. These are mainly favouring large energy-consuming industries in Europe. Now other non EU countries should join in. Commission president Barroso particularly invited the US to take, together with Europe, the lead in climate protection matters.
